- Thurs, April 30 - Class instruction + Plant ID workshop 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
- Fri, May 1 - Class instruction 9:00 am - 1:00 pm; Exam 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

- Cost: $650 per person ($440 + $120 Required Study Manuals + $90 Provincial Exam fee)
- Cost is reduced (-$120) if you already have the required Study Manuals **see note under Materials

- Pre-paid parking is also available at $5 per day

Course Information
This course will include:
- In-person instruction and calculations practice
- Plant ID workshop for priority invasive plants - new!
- Backpack/Handheld sprayer demonstration
- Exam on the final day
This course will prepare attendees to obtain their provincial pesticide applicator certification (Industrial Vegetation and Noxious Weeds Category).
Participants will learn:
- Local, provincial and federal legislation that govern pesticide use in BC
- How pesticides are registered, classified and labeled for use in Canada
- Principles of Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
- Understand how to minimize risks to environment and public when selecting and applying pesticides
- Application technology and how to perform the calculations for calibrating application equipment
- Correct usage of personal protective equipment (PPE) and emergency response
- Identification and management of priority invasive plant species in the Fraser Valley
Completion of this workshop does not certify pesticide applicators - participants must pass the BC Government Pesticide Certification Exam on the final day to be certified.

Materials
Study manuals are required for this course, and are included in the course cost (unless otherwise arranged):
- Canadian Pesticide Education Program Applicator Core Manual British Columbia (2011)
- Supplementary Information for Industrial Vegetation and Noxious Weed Control Pesticide Applicator Certification (2025) **
** Note : The Supplementary Information Book has been updated for 2026, and the exams have been updated to reflect the new material. The 2025 version of the book will be included as part of this course.
Course manuals are ordered from the Provincal website on behalf of students to ensure arrival in time for the class.
Exam Details
The exam is mailed to the BC Government for grading and assessment. The instructor will not be completing any grading of the exams.
- Government issued photo ID is required to complete the exam (eg. driver’s license, BC ID card, passport).
- Certificate is only valid in BC; please check other jurisdictions for equivalencies.
- Exam results will be mailed directly from the Province to students, usually ~3-4 weeks.
- 75 + % = 5-year Certificate; 60 - 74 % = 1-year Certificate; 59 % = No Certificate

- Full payment by invoice, cheque, or e-transfer due upon registration to hold spot. Unfortunately we are not set up to accept credit card payments.
- A full refund will be provided if the cancellation request is received at least 10 days prior to the course start date.
- A 50% refund will be issued if the cancellation request is made between 5 to 9 days before the course start date.
- No refunds will be issued for cancellations made within 5 days of the course start date.
- No refunds will be granted for participants who fail to attend without prior notice.
- Host reserves the right to cancel the course (with full refund) by Mon, April 20, 2026.
Instructor
Peter Isaacson has over 20 years in the field of pest management. He has a Master’s of Pest Management from SFU (2000), and was previously the National Integrated Pest Management Coordinator with Canadian Nursery Landscape Association. He was awarded the 2022 BCNLA Educator of the Year. Peter currently focuses on horticulture education through Burnaby Community and Continuing Education, and has been teaching pesticide applicator courses across BC since 2016.
